Women’s day celebration : hike la Rhune with us

Sunday 8th of March, Women’s Day. Hiking day in the Pyrenees

Winter is slowly coming to an end and with it the quieter months. We move less, we see less people and we retreat inwards. International Women’s Day is a perfect moment to step back outside, into movement and connection with other women. We will celebrate by hiking to La Rhune, iconic peak in the Basque Country. Being the highest summit around, you will be gifted with panoramic views of the ocean, the Pyrenees and lush lands.

We want to keep this day in a gentle pace and give it a relaxed atmosphere. Taking the time to observe what’s around, to connect and take in the beautiful nature and people around us.

La Rhune was the very first hike I did in the Basque Country and I deeply cherish that memory. The wildlife I encountered, the breathtaking views, the gentle walk through the forest followed by the steep climb. It was a humbling experience. Sharing this mountain today feels especially meaningful.

what the day looks like

We meet at 8 am at the meeting point (exact location shared after booking). From there, we will experience:

  • hiking up the peak “La Rhune” at 903m with a gentle pace
  • a scenic coffee & cake break on the way
  • connection moments throughout the day
  • group photos in a beautiful surrounding
  • a nourishing lunch together in a charming Basque village

We finish at around 3pm before we part our ways.

is this hike for me?

La Rhune is a challenging and rewarding hike. If you feel comfortable walking uphill for several hours, you will enjoy this active day out. Route details:

  • distance: 10km
  • 800m elevation gain
  • rocky and possible slippery terrain

This day is for you if you enjoy being active in nature and feel open to meeting new women in a relaxed, supportive setting.

what to bring?

Dressing in layers will be essential. You want comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, parts of the terrain can be slippery. A light waterproof jacket is recommended and keep in mind that the peak can be windy even on sunny days.

Bring enough water to stay well hydrated throughout the climb and feel free to pack a few personal snacks.

weather

March weather in the Basque country can be very unpredictable. If conditions are unsafe (heavy rain or high winds), I will move the event to a more protected alternative hike and still celebrate together. We will be communicating on a dedicated WhatsApp group for any change to plans.

transport

The meeting location will be shared after booking. I would advise you to come with your own vehicle as public transports are not that reliable in this part of the country.
A WhatsApp group will be created beforehand to organise carpooling if desired.
